In 2012 about 4,000 voters went to the polls in Rothesay. Had French Village, with roughly 2250 eligible voters, turned out en masse then, they might have had more influence with the 2012 – 2016 Council.
We’ll have to wait until Monday night to see if French Village will make the trek across the highway to a temporary polling place at St. David’s Church for this election. Clearly, if they want strong representation on the next council that trek will be worth the drive.
Turnout for Rothesay’s advance polls was very heavy this time, at 2,000 voters. Add the 600 or so voting at the Returning office and that represents almost half the total number of votes cast in the 2012 election.
There is either a very effective get-out-the-vote effort underway or the electorate is motivated to get out and vote on their own, a sign that incumbents should worry about their seats. oneRothesay.com has had over 10,000 page views since we began two months ago, a testament to the increased interest in the Rothesay election.
We’ll see where that will lead us on Monday Night.
oneRothesay.com will post results from Elections NB as we get them.
