I was pleasantly surprised to read an open letter on Nancy Grant’s facebook page this morning. The tone is the right one given the intensity of the campaign. It’s great to see the Mayor elect’s focus on ALL Rothesay. We need to mend fences and to build a consensus around the varied points of view within our community. Well done Nancy Grant!

OPEN LETTER TO ROTHESAY RESIDENTS
Remarkable events this evening! I am proud to have been chosen the new Mayor of Rothesay. I have big shoes to fill-Bill Bishop was an awesome Mayor for so long- but I will do my best to fill them.
I have a number of people to thank:
– the four Rothesay Councillors who have unfailingly supported me, not only through this campaign, but through the past four years. We made a team, as evidenced by the things we accomplished. We remain friends and colleagues. Thanks Matt, Miriam, Bill and Pete.
-my election team, few in number, but mighty; you are the BEST ever. Never did a small group of people love their town more than this group; and thank you for believing in me.
-the individuals and businesses who believed in me, and went out on a limb, allowing me to place signs on their lawns, and in some cases their businesses. That takes courage, and I appreciate their support.
– finally, the voters of Rothesay, who have placed their confidence in me. I will work hard to live up to your expectations.
I want to assure citizens that I have heard ALL voters: those who agree with my positions, and those who don’t.
I committed to represent ALL Rothesay residents, and I intend to do just that.
I have heard loud and clear that people want better communication with Town Hall, and more transparency, and I commit to making that happen. I will hear from all sides, and work with residents of all viewpoints, and I commit to more public input into Town Hall. We will find a way to hear all sides and viewpoints.
I am also keen to collaborate with neighboring municipalities. It is clear that people want issues to be looked at from a regional perspective; I would suggest that an informal Mayor’s Committee might be a way to facilitate discussion on issues which are common to Saint John, Rothesay, and Quispamsis. There are more specific issues which Rothesay and Quispamsis might collaborate on, such as recreation and equipment purchase.
I congratulate the members of Rothesay Council elected tonight. I look forward to working with you, and building the team we need to make Rothesay an even greater place than it has been. I can’t wait to get to the business of making our beloved Town a more progressive, more inclusive place!
